First of all, what is a “screen?” Great Question! The “screen” we use in the trade of “screen printing” is basically a frame made out of wood or metal with a mesh fabric adhered to it, generally resembling a window screen. A chemical liquid called “emulsion” is smothered evenly over the mesh and left in darkness until the liquid hardens and dries. A stencil is then carved out of the emulsion, ink is placed into the screen, then a squeegee is used to push the ink through the open mesh. It sounds simple, but it is a skilled trade that takes a creative mind coupled with laborious effort. 

We offer an Intro To Screen Printing Class on some Saturdays from 10am to 1:30pm, which costs $150 per person. Feel free to contact us about discount group rates. The three and a half hour Saturday course will teach the student how to prepare a one-color film in photoshop, print the film, coat a single screen with emulsion and “burn” a one-color stencil into it, then tape-off any unwanted openings in the mesh, level the screen with the platten, load a t-shirt onto the platten and print a one-color design.
